Manatees are large, fully aquatic, mostly herbivorous marine mammals sometimes known as sea cows. During certain weather conditions you can view some at Desoto Park (Caribbean Rd. and Desoto Pkwy.) in Satellite Beach (South of Cocoa Beach).

Pelicans are large water birds with a long beak and large throat pouch used to catch prey. You can see them flying in formation just over the water or diving for fish.

Giant Loggerhead turtles (200 - 350 pounds) crawl up on the beach at night to lay their eggs in this area. Guided Sea Turtle walks in Satellite Beach start in June and end in July.
If you should experience a turtle it is required by law that you do not disturb them. PLEASE: no flash photography/use of phone flashlight, and do not touch. Thanks!

For those with an interest in seeing local critters up-close Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge is about a 45 minute drive away. There is an interpretive center and routes to drive or hike where you might see birds, alligators, manatees, or turtles.
